In an effort to put themselves even more in the ratings basement after not paying attention to viewers’ preferences for years, NBC television has signed “Sex and the City” writer, Michael Patrick King, to script an hour-long project.
The show is said to be centered around a STRAIGHT 50-something hairdresser, much like Warren Beatty’s character in the movie “Shampoo,” and the daily trials and tribulations he faces in trying to stay hot in a youth-obsessed culture.
We wondered why NBC would stump up the $2-3 million per episode for an hour-long show from Michael Patrick King when they canceled their SATC clone “Lipstick Jungle” before viewers practically even had a chance to see it, so we asked one Hollywood producer. He told us, “I’m not sure what NBC is thinking either, but maybe they got tired of trying to rip off ‘Lost’ or maybe they were running out of morbidly obese people for ‘The Biggest Loser.’ In regard to Michael’s project – well, they always say you should write what you know, and after seeing the second ‘Sex and the City’ movie, I think it’s safe to say that Michael doesn’t know about how make an aging character* remain relevant in a youth-obsessed culture. He also doesn’t know much about being straight. So I guess, as usual, he’ll just have to write a show about characters that are vain and superficial beyond belief. Gee, NBC, that should really fly in the current economic climate!”
*Samantha. Or, should we say, "Yamantha?"
