In addition to trying to avoid breaking off and sinking into the sea, Californians failed to add easy money to their extremely cash-strapped state’s coffers yesterday by rejecting Proposition 19 to legalize pot in the 2010 election.
The Associated Press is reporting that in exit polls, it was clear that senior citizens rejected the possible state-saving proposition well over younger voters, with a generation gap of six in 10 under 30 saying they voted yes, while seven in 10 seniors saying they voted no.
Unsolicited Drivel asked an advocate from a pro-legalization alliance for comment who told us, "Regardless of the defeat, Prop 19 has been an enormously valuable experiment. We were gaining momentum in recent days, but can’t be quite sure exactly what went wrong. Seniors vote consistently, and it never rains in California which lessens their chance of slipping and breaking a hip, so their turnout will always be higher than younger people who have more important things to do - like play Farmville. We also believe that San Francisco was too hung-over after the World Series to show up at the polls at all. But now speculation has shifted to the theory that even MORE conservative voters turned out after they became turned off by watching Zach Galifianakis light up a joint on TV with his creepy bear paws.”
