Liberal America Reacts to Obama’s Choice of Daley as Chief of Staff

Washington, DC – President Obama is set to announce his selection of William Daley as his new Chief of Staff to replace Rahm Emanuel today and his selection has left millions of liberal Americans who put him in office scratching their heads.  Why would President Obama choose a man who has been so harshly critical of many of the Democrats’ efforts early in his administration, and who also hails from Wall Street?  A J.P. Morgan Chase Executive!
As with many of Obama’s decisions we can’t explain (caving on the public option, tax cuts for the rich...), we’re not sure we have the brainpower to figure this one out, so we asked our readers for their thoughts.

“It’s become clear to me that Obama’s never been left, he was centrist left.  Now with the new Republican Congress in power, I suppose hiring a Wall Street executive is just another compromise on Obama’s part.  I hope John Boehner enjoys creating jobs along side the guy that gave so many of ours away to Mexico and Canada by drafting NAFTA.  But, then again, a lot of these politicians do live to contradict themselves.”

“The choice of a moldy old rich bastard hack from the Clinton Administration in former U.S. Commerce Secretary Daley tells me that Obama’s becoming even more willing than ever to work with another hack – Speaker Boehner.  I guess Obama better start spending more time boozing and on the golf course then so he and Boehner can find time to meet.  Obama might want to skip the sunscreen though so people can still tell the difference between them, as it’s getting tough enough as it is to tell any difference by their politics.”

“That Daley guy totally opposed health care reform and sits on the board of Merck.  So, assuming he’s on board with repealing the health care reform bill, I hope he’s on also board with stumping up some of the money he made from pharmaceutical lobbying to cover the $230 billion tab  that reform would add to the Federal deficit.”

“I was never quite sure exactly what the Chief of Staff did and didn’t care all that much before today.  Now I do.  I wish Obama had just kept that low-key guy, Pete Rouse.  At least if I Google his name, I don’t get a ton of hits about things he’s done in an effort to f#!k working families.”
