Down under, not down low. Australia’s biggest film festival rejected a gay zombie porn entry, “L.A. Zombie” for contention after the film was screened and rejected by censors this week.
It seemed odd to us that it was banned as producers described it as a “zombie art film” but it was just not "arty" enough for The Melbourne International Film Festival apparently.
We spoke with an assistant festival director who told us, “Festival goers are not here to see ‘Bambi’ or ‘Toy Story’ but still, I don’t know how they can get off calling this an “art” film when it doesn’t feature any acoustic guitar music and nobody in the story learns a lesson about their own shallowness. And I don’t think Australian audiences, even gay ones, would appreciate full frontal nudity if the actor’s package looks like it’s decomposing. Besides, we only screened ‘L.A. Zombie’ because we thought it starred Lindsay Lohan. I guess we had it confused with ‘I Know Who Killed Me.’ Didn’t she play a zombie in that? It was never released here.”
