New York - "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams showed up for work last night not realizing that it was the day we observed the July 4th national holiday on that his forefathers fought and died for.
He began his broadcast Monday night, "Millions of Americans are enjoying a little extra Fourth of July vacation time on this fifth of July, but I didn’t get that memo. And, the news never goes on vacation. ”
Williams’ first clue that it was a holiday should have been the tumbleweeds blowing up 6th Avenue outside his studio upon his arrival back in town after he left his family down at the shore, but he still didn’t catch on. He also could have noticed that there were no hobos in sight as they all caught the Jitney to the Hamptons, but he didn't.
One producer on the show told us, “I guess that means he must really love his job. Of course, if I got paid what he does to just read words off of a teleprompter, I might like my job too. But for most of us, that sentiment is un-American, and that’s why we needed the day off. The truly sad part is that his family didn’t bother to tell him it was a holiday so he didn’t look like an idiot.”
