Ever Hear of Proofreading?

Baltimore, MD – An area woman who has worked in advertising for entirely too much of her career claimed to be “blown away” today by the latest scandal involving the Republican National Committee.  When questioned about her ire she offered, “I don’t give a crap about ‘Bondage-gate.’ It’s the shoddy workmanship in their mailer I cannot get past.”  She was referring to an RNC mailer that went to press with a toll free phone number that when dialed, turned out to be a $2.99 per minute sex line, and not a call center for donations. Once again, this proves how much the GOP is out of touch with the American public, as NOBODY can afford to pay that much for phone sex in this economy.  Be that as it may, she continued, “you want to know how fast my ass would be in a sling at the agency I work for if I put something like that into production?  Well, before it ever reached consumers’ mailboxes - that’s for damn sure. I can’t criticize the RNC for designing the direct mail piece to make it look like an official government document just to get readers’ attention.  Hell, we pull that shit all the time by designing pieces to make it look like someone’s going to win a sweepstakes, but in reality, it’s just some lousy 5% rebate on a $5,000 purchase for crap they don’t need.  How careless can you be to send a piece you are going to print multi-thousands of copies of to press without proof-reading the most important part – the phone number?!?!  Talk about government waste!  Hell, I’d proofread a phone number to be posted on Craig’s List at least twice and then call it to double check - even if it was just for an ad to sell a turd. Excuse me, but I’ve also worked in retail.  You package something attractively enough and add a cute little descriptive card, and it will sell. Don’t think that technique will work for Michael Steele at this point, however.”
