First Lady in Spain Explained

Despite having taken a Paris vacation LAST SUMMER, seemingly without incident with the press when the economy was BEYOND CIRCLING THE DRAIN (compared to now with actual progress in its growth), First Lady Michelle Obama caught a raft of crap for her recent vacation to Spain.  One (bored) NY columnist even compared her to Marie Antoinette.  We were quite frankly waiting for the comparisons to Eva Peron. She's got the hairstyle down.

Only after the First Lady’s return are we learning the trip was planned with the best of intentions – to console a grieving friend. Anita Blanchard, a close friend of both the Obama’s, lost her father in July.  As Michelle was unable to attend the funeral, she planned to join Blanchard on her vacation to Spain that she had planned for this month.  She brought Sasha along because it was preferable to travel with the small child rather than to have her play “Dora the Explorer” DVDs over and over again upon Michelle’s return in a passive aggressive fit as a result of her being left behind.  And naturally, the Secret Service could not be left behind either.

But everyone’s asking the big question:  Why did the White House wait until after the fact to offer this information?  We were unable to obtain any official comment so we’ll just have to speculate.  Fox News' Bill O’Reilly himself admitted that he’d only reported on the First Lady's trip it because it was August, the slowest month of the year for news.  It’s also the month that most psychiatrists go on vacation.   Therefore, we’re guessing the White House decided to throw the rabid right wing media a bone because all of their shrinks were out of town and they were very likely running out of Valium.  Pretty considerate really, if you think about it.
