Los Angeles - Eccentric gay icon Barbra Streisand was doing damage control yesterday after the press suggested she was snubbing the TV hit musical-teen-hormone-fest “Glee.”
When asked at the Grammy Awards if she would appear on the show, she quipped, "Not if I can help it." She quickly back-tracked and told the celebrity-slaying gossip site TMZ.com, “I should have said, ‘You never know.’ It was wrong to say, ‘Not if I can help it.’ Really, really wrong.”
Unsolicited Drivel spoke with someone close to the “Funny Girl’s” camp for the inside scoop on Bab’s change of heart. He told us:
“Barbra clearly had too much on her plate to consider doing ‘Glee’ had she ever been asked – which she wasn’t. She should have clarified that at the Grammy show. I am a little surprised at how quickly she responded to the criticism of her remarks though. She usually spends most days after a big night performing staring at the water lilies in her duck pond along side her barn that is merely a prop. My guess is she reacted so quickly to avoid having ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy referring to her as a self-centered a-hole in the press who misses the big picture. Ryan has serious street-cred within the gay community and Barbra’s fan base has been dwindling recently, as you could easily feed a medium-sized island nation for a year with the price she’s asking for one of her concert tickets. And that’s in the nosebleed seats! Of course, if she’d known of Murphy’s plans to essentially undo all of the good he’s done for gay teens by directing Willow Smith in another rehash of ‘Annie’ for his next project, she probably wouldn’t have bothered to comment. But she doesn’t read the trade papers anymore.”
