I can't believe I'm about to say this, but here goes: the movie The Other Guys is great and Will Ferrell is great in it! Yes, that Will Ferrell! The one you swore you would never set foot in a movie theatre with one of his movies playing in it after you'd been burned all those other times.
The movie pairs off Ferrell and Mark Walhberg as two misfit detectives who have to handle followup paperwork for the glamorous crook-catching car-smashing star detectives played by Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Unlike his usual out-loud over-the-top roles, Ferrell is the straight man to Walhberg's temper-losing hothead, who is a hilarious mix of tough-as-nails-kid-from-the-neighborhood and sensitive-modern-man. The movie starts out funny (you will laugh at and remember the "Lion and the Tuna" scene) and keeps going that way, with new bits and jokes and characters constantly being added. Example funny bit: early on, Ferrell's gun is taken from him and replaced with a wooden one. Crooks steal the gun in another bit. Later on the gun is recovered and it turns out the crooks stained it and rubbed it with linseed oil. Trust me, it's funny. The audience was constantly laughing throughout the movie. Walhberg is just as funny, and watch for some good lines from Michael Keaton as the duo's boss who also moonlights at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Seriously funny movie! Two things: watch for the gramma-crossing-the-street-scene (no, she doesn't get hit by a car), and stay for the whole credits.
