Anderson Cooper will not be lining up to buy popcorn for the new movie “The Dilemma.”
The CNN Anchor told non-threatening daytime clown Ellen DeGeneres that he took issue with the movie’s trailer. In the clip, the movie’s star, Vince Vaughn’s character, uses the word “gay” in an unflattering fashion. Gentleman that he is, Cooper never named Vaughn directly in his complaint.
He told Ellen, "I just find those words, those terms, we've got to do something to make those words unacceptable because those words are hurting kids. Someone else I talked to recently said that the words people use and the things people say about other kids online, it enters into their internal dialogue."
Ron Howard directed “The Dilemma” so we at Unsolicited Drivel found it puzzling that such a socially conscious filmmaker would allow such a crass remark. We asked one industry insider for comment about the controversy and he told us, “That is a surprise coming from Ron. I haven’t seen the trailer yet, but the only instance I can think of that would be acceptable for them using the word ‘gay’ is if they were referring to a female character insisting she was gay to avoid having to kiss Vince Vaughn.”
(*No, we’re not trying to turn into the Huffington Post, and you’ll also never see this blog use the words “baby bump” unless it's in a story about criticizing others who over use the silly term. We just figured we steal some web traffic from the usual SLAM-slingers.)
UPDATE: The comment has been REMOVED from the movie trailer.
