A Tennessee farmer recently lost his home due to it burning down after he failed to pay an annual $75 firefighting fee to his local government, and now a Christian group is insisting that Jesus would be okay with that.
In a blog posting, Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association, claimed what the fire department was did the right thing (literally - politically) in letting the home burn to the ground because:
“The right thing, by the way, is also the Christian thing, because there can be no difference between the two. The right thing to do will always be the Christian thing to do, and the Christian thing to do will always be the right thing to do.”
We forwarded Jesus the link for Fischer's blog post “Firefighters Did the Christian Thing in Letting House Burn to the Ground,” for his review. The Son of God emailed us back:
“The right thing to do is to always help someone in need. I understand the fire department’s need for revenue as the political right doesn’t want to pay for social services, but this whole program was poorly conceived. At the very least, the fire department should have had an ‘emergency’ fund (pun intended) to pay for indigents as THAT would be the Christian thing to do. If they believed the farmer was not indigent, they should have offered to take payment over the phone for the fee by credit card and headed out on their way to save the day. This whole tragedy really distresses me. I don’t need this on top of all of those right wing crazies spouting off pretending to speak on my behalf before mid-term elections. Thank you U.D. for the ever watchful eye.”
–Peace Out,
Jesus

It always amazes me how little Christian charity there is in America
