“American Psycho” Headed to Broadway

New York - It’s been nine long years since Wall Street banker Patrick Bateman was on the big screen hitting his co-workers with an axe the way most yuppies hit a racquet ball, but now he’s headed to bloody-up the Great White Way.  The novel American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, which was later a film adaptation starring Christian Bale, is now a musical in development and is being composed by rocker Duncan Sheik.

Considering another show with a sanguine theme, Bloody, Bloody, Andrew Jackson, practically closed before the blood spatter was even dry, we thought this plan to bring American Psycho to Broadway may be a tough sell with audiences.

Unsolicited Drivel
caught up with one of the producers on the show who told us, “Obviously, it’s not for the same crowd who want to see Elf or Shrek.  There will be blood, but not from the actors falling on their heads and smashing their skulls like in Spiderman.  No, we’ll have actual murders on the stage.  Duncan won two Tonys and a Grammy for his score for Spring Awakening, that show about jerking off, so the music should be good enough that you won't forget it as you are hearing it.  And considering the bank bailouts of late, I don’t think there’s ever been a better time for Americans to want to see Wall Street bankers getting hit in the face with an ax.  We're speculating it's likely we'll sell out Psycho tickets even before previews start.”
