57 Million and Counting: Star Studded Telethon Breaks Fundraising Records

Los Angeles – The organizers behind the “Hope for Haiti” telethon (we’re pretty sure it was those guys from "Ocean's Eleven") have announced that the televised event has raised upwards of $57 million for earthquake relief and donations are still coming in.  These totals include money raised by text message, phone and the Internet.  People are also able to donate by purchasing music from the telethon via iTunes.  When asked why the public set a new standard for generosity, one entertainment industry executive said in a statement released Saturday, “It’s heartening to know that Americans and others from nations around the world can pull together and extend their generosity to impoverished countries such as Haiti in times of crisis.  Of course, it also helps if they believe they may have an opportunity to try and engage Julia Roberts in impromptu phone sex, convince Steven Spielberg to read their screenplay or be able to check first-hand if Jen Anniston is between man-whores this week.”
