Will There Be A Fight Out of Spite Over SCOTUS Nominee?

Washington, DC - There are many conflicting reports over whether or not the Republicans are suiting up for another major battle over Obama’s future pick (which he hasn’t even made yet, BTW) to replace the extremely liberal retiring Supreme Court Justice, John Paul George Ringo Stevens.

Stevens, who turns 90 this month, announced he was stepping down at the end of the high court’s next term.  Republicans are now making rumblings that Obama may have a fight on his hands if he chooses a nominee “outside the mainstream.”

In their defense, Hanukkah songwriter and senior senator, Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, stated this morning that Republicans have been quicker to approve Obama’s SCOTUS nominations (that token ethnic lady one) than Bush’s.  However, he also stated that if Obama nominates an “activist” judge (translation: a judge who approves of human rights for all and who doesn’t wear a confederate flag pin on their robe), there could be trouble.

This notion of Obama nominating someone of extreme liberal ideology would at this point, be really confusing to Democrats who voted for Obama, and who are still paying attention, as his presidency, at times, has seemed anything but liberal.

One political analyst offered this assessment, “It’s not like Judge Judy has ever been in contention, so they should just chill out already. But the bottom line is this: Obama can pick whomever he wants, even inside their definition of the mainstream, and probably still have fight on his hands with the Republicans.  And do you realize that the nominee doesn’t even have to a lawyer?  He can pick anybody he wants.  And, after the fight over ‘Obamacare,’ he could choose freakin’ Dick Cheney for his nominee, and still likely face a filibuster.”

He could nominate Darth Vader, and Darth could promise to outlaw the Democratic party if elected, and the Republicans would still filibuster.
