Washington, DC – In a surprise to no one, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas announced her retirement today effective IMMEDIATELY.
You would think that making it all the way to the age of 89 would give a person a right to say whatever they damn well please, but you would be wrong. I’m sure that won’t keep elderly people from hurling insults at me at the Kmart, but it didn’t work out so well for Helen.
In the wake of the latest mess with Israel and Palestine, Thomas told a rabbi at the White House last week that that the Jews should "get the hell out of Palestine" already and just go back to Germany and Poland.
Thomas admitted she didn’t regret her comments, yet the criticism has forced her into retirement nonetheless. Criticism - as opposed to her being older than dirt. Nobody say a G.D. harsh thing about Betty White!!!
Media critics, such as Sarah Silverman, probably already feel there’s likely a place for Helen Thomas waiting for her at an outlet such as Fox News. Should she be serious about her retirement from reporting after all, there’s probably a condo in Arizona with a gold name plate on it waiting for her already.
Footnote: There's a difference between racism and just plain intolerance. Helen (allegedly) hates people because of their religious beliefs - not because the color of their skin. We doubt Fox News or certain border states make any distinction, however.

The country of Israel has existed for about 130 years. 62 in the modern era (1948-now) and about another 70 or so in the pre-Christian times. For over 1500 years between those two eras, the land was occupied by many peoples including the Palestinians (who in the Bible are the Philistines). The Palestinians have been there for a longer time. Their claim to the land is strong.
Sadly, so was the Native Americans.
