Courtney Love the First Twitter User to be Sued for Being a Tw@t

Los Angeles – Occasional rocker and full-time exhibitionist Courtney Love just got a new trial date for the defamation case against her over her Twitter postings.  Love is to appear in court on February 6th over some 2009 tweets she let rip slamming "Boudoir Queen" fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir.

Simorangkir, who designs lingerie-inspired dresses, claims Love ruined her career by calling her,  “drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child.”  Love further Tweeted, “she has received a VAST amount of money from me over 40,000 dollars and I do not make people famous and get raped TOO!”

Lawyers for Love insist the rocker is not guilty of libel as she was merely repeating details from conversations she had with Simorangkir.  However, they did admit the “rapist” comments might be a little tricky to gloss over.

We asked a Hollywood legal eagle for comment on this groundbreaking trial.  He told us, “It’s true, there’s never been a trial over verbal regurgitation in social media and it will be interesting to see if the jury cuts the spewer more slack because it’s not like speaking through the mainstream media.  The legal system could be crippled over the number of lawsuits that could be brought over drunken Twitter and Facebook postings.   That being said, Simorangkir may need to prove that sales of her fashion line really did plummet as a direct result of Love’s rants.  Some fashion industry competitors contend that her diminished fortunes may be due to the fact that not every starlet wants to look like a harlot who crawled out of a dumpster, but if Dawn is looking for immediate boost in sales to cover legal fees, they suggest she might want to consider offering to design for Ke$ha.”
