New York – Just days after her announcement that The CBS Evening News will return to it’s “old white-bread looking guy” format by replacing her with Scott Pelley, sources close to Katie Couric insist she in home stretch of inking a deal out with ABC.
Katie’s new deal with ABC would include a one-hour daily talk show during the week with a $20 million first year guarantee, and she would also fill in as an anchor on ABC news shows like 20/20.
An insider at the network told us, “Katie’s talk show will be syndicated, not produced by ABC, so fans can’t blame her for the cancellation of the soaps and it’s possible even General Hospital might be on the chopping block too, as actor James Franco is no longer available to boost ratings of the dying genre with his guest appearances as he’s decided to become a Navy SEAL. Now we’re only waiting to hear if a separate show has been approved featuring just Katie’s colon. She wants to continue her fight against colon cancer in her late husband’s memory and has insisted it get equal airtime. We’ve been looking for a way to add a ‘complete-gross-out factor’ to our network on par with that of The Dr. Oz Show, so I’m guessing it won’t be a deal-breaker to include a colonoscopy hour on ABC. Maybe we can get Lauer to host it? I can tell Meredith really gets on his nerves, and it might be easier for him to work with an asshole that can't talk back.”
Couric's representation also denied to Unsolicited Drivel that the deal with ABC was dependent on her being able to do a reality show featuring Sarah Palin called So You Think You Can Read?
