Who’s Afraid Of Oprah?

Kitty Kelley, the infamous unauthorized biographer, may have finally found herself a literary white whale in Oprah Winfrey.  It’s amazing to begin with that Kelley even decided to write the book without Winfrey’s permission.  Not that an unauthorized biographer needs a subject’s permission, but last time we checked, all authors had to get Oprah’s permission before writing any book.  Still, with her track record of being extremely thorough, and after some 850 interviews, Kelley was able to convince Random House to publish her book.

Kelley seems fearless, as when penning her book on Frank Sinatra, he even threatened to have her whacked.  Although, it doesn’t appear that Oprah is the violent type, as she could have very easily have had Gail whack Tom Cruise for turning her show into a circus…among other people.  As much as we’d like to get excited about Kelley’s allegations, like the one that Oprah won’t give her own mother her phone number, and only will communicate with her through her assistant, the REAL story seems to be that hardly anyone in the mainstream media will interview Kelley.  So far, only O’Reilly and those dim bulbs on The Today Show have signed on, and Kelley has been snubbed by: Letterman, Larry King, Charlie Rose, Barbara Walters and Rachel Ray.  Rachel Freakin’ Ray!?!

We asked a television industry insider for their take on this and he told us, “Oprah plans to take on prime time.  It’s no coincidence that her network, The Oprah Winfrey Network, abbreviates to OWN, as she WILL own the airwaves, and could put everyone in the industry out of work if they piss her off.  In addition to multiple talk show formats, sources say she is also considering entertainment shows like: Dancing with Oprah, Oprah Idol, Top Chef: Oprah’s Kitchen, Extreme Makeover: Oprah Edition, Survivor: Chicago, and even some scripted comedies, like Two and a Half Oprahs.

I asked Kitty Kelley to do my bio but she said she only does real people. When I pointed out that she did Oprah's bio, she ran out of the room in a huff.
