Washington, DC – Speaker of the House John Boehner has been receiving a lot of criticism today for his noticeable absence at the memorial service held for the shooting victims in Tucson last night.
While it’s true that it looked like Boehner refused Obama’s invitation to ride to Arizona on Airforce One just to attend another RNC fundraising event as many people initially might have thought, there's more to the story than that.
A DC insider told Unsolicited Drivel, “I did see John at the RNC fundraiser yesterday, but that wasn’t the only reason he stayed in town. While it’s true he’s probably trying to top his last year's record of attending 1.25 back-slapping, rib-poking, inside (the Beltway) joke-making fundraisers per day, maybe increasing his attendance level to as much as even 2 fundraisers per day, it’s just a coincidence that he was in town for this one. He had to stay behind to lead the prayer service in the House as Nancy Pelosi chose to attend the memorial to honor her fellow Democratic colleague, Gabrielle Giffords, and her constituents in person. It’s really just as simple as that. Besides, do you really think John Boehner would miss any opportunity to cry before America on national television if there weren’t extenuating circumstances? Damn, he would have been there like a buzzard on a shit wagon and might not of even had to fake it.”
