$11 Million Christmas Tree Kind of a Faux Pas

Abu Dhabi – A luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi has admitted that upon reflection, its 11 million dollar Christmas tree may not have been such a good idea in a crappy world economy.

The Emirates Palace, listed in the Michelin Travel Guide with the coveted “Beyond 5-Stars/Orgy of Excess,” rating has taken a lot of criticism for their over the top tree decorated with real jewels from a local jeweler. A Palace spokesperson said the hotel, “regretted to point out that the rest of the world was dirt poor, and only wanted to share the holiday tradition with visiting guests and make them feel more at home.”

181 Diamonds, pearls, emeralds, sapphires and other stones still seemed excessive to us.   Unsolicited Drivel caught up with one concierge at the hotel for comment who told us, “well, now that we think about it, most Christians probably can’t afford to stay at a hotel like this. And it certainly was not our motivation to bring back those Hollywood whores from ‘Sex and the City’ by decorating the tree with all of the bling. But I think you folks should cut us some slack as we didn’t go with the original plan to decorate with those candles with the bubbling liquid in them, which we were going to use virgin angel tears to fill.”
