New York – Julie Taymor, the embattled director of the Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark," is rumored to be leaving the show.
This is just the latest drama to haunt the under dramatic $65 million musical after a series of accidents involving actors and multiple safety violations.
The New York Times is reporting that producers of the troublesome show were either negotiating for Taymor to have an expanded creative role in the production, or to just buzz off. It was unclear which way they were leaning at press time. It may even be the case that they will let Bono, composer of the music for the show, take over creative control because he knows as much about directing a Broadway show as he does about mass-producing red T-shirts for AIDS charities.
A Broadway insider told us, “I think you will be hearing shortly that Julie is leaving the show for another project more suited to her talents. Not the circus - their safety regulations are too tight. I overheard last night at Joe Allen’s that she’s been asked to direct the new musical ‘Baghdad: Turn Off Our Lights and Our Water Too’ over in Iraq about the American invasion. The actors there won’t likely complain about the physical stress because they were used to being tortured by Saddam Hussein, and if the production turns into complete chaos and takes years to complete, based upon our track record, the producers and the Iraqi people will never know the difference.”

With Spider-men dropping like flies, her departure couldn't come too soon. What a bad idea! Not even Jazz hands could save the show
